“Holy baptism is a way- a specific, sacramental way – that God uses to act in our lives and to constitute the church. In baptism, God connects us to the mystery of Christ’s dying and rising (Romans 6:3-11). In baptism, God marks us as disciples (Matthew 28:19) pours out upon us the Holy spirit and the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38). In baptism God washes us clean and sets us apart for life in the covenant community (Jeremiah 31:31-34; Mark 1:5; I Corinthians 12:13). In baptism, God erases all human distinctions and prideful exclusiveness, joining us a members of the body of Christ (Galatians 3:25-29; Ephesians 4:4-6). In baptism, God erases all human distinctions and prideful exclusiveness, joining us as members of the body of Christ (Romans 6:3) and are born on water and the Spirit (John 3:3-8). Through baptism we are born anew.” (Daniel T. Benedict, Come to the Waters, Discipleship Resources, Nashville,
